Give or take here we are discussing two sugar substitutes which people like to use, namely aspartame and acesulfame k; these sweeteners contain fewer calories than regular sugar. This ensures that when you use these sweeteners, even if you consume something sweet then will also provide fewer calories as compared to normal sugar. But what are these sweeteners and are they safe to eat?
The short answer is yes! Aspartame and Acesulfame K are considered safe for us to consume by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These things have been and tested time again to insure they are not dangerous for us. But, as with all things we ingest through our mouths, you must consume sweeteners in moderation. This is why we should not eat it in large quantities at once. Just using them in proper moderation keeps our diet balanced and healthy.
So what does Dr Smith (a nutritionist) think about these sweeteners to help us better understand our understanding of them. Acesulfame k also beaks down into amino acids as does aspartame -Dr. Smith They share an identical set of amino acids with the ones our bodies use to create proteins, that is very important for out growth and well being. So, if you include a variety of foods in your diet that includes these sweeteners — and also some have been shown to be safe for us per Dr. Smith!
Regular sugar breaks down into glucose and fructose. Our bodies need glucose to provide energy. However, both aspartame and acesulfame k are not broken down into glucose and fructose when taken with meals. Instead, they are converted to amino acids that our bodies can then use to form proteins. It is an important difference because it highlights the ways that our bodies do and don't treat these sweeteners like they are sugar.
Aspartame: Not the same as acesulfame k; serves different purposes, flavors. In reality, Aspartame is 200 times sweeter than regular sugar which means that the amount we need to make something sweet at all levels would be minimal. It is often found in diet sodas and chewing gum, that make it tasty without the additional calories. It is also 200 times sweeter than regular sugar and can be found in baked goods, as well as chewing gum. You can readily find both of these sweeteners as they are pretty common in a variety of such food and drink products.
With our new information about aspartame and acesulfame k, let's discuss the down sides/ plus ups of these sweeteners. I have always believed in looking at both sides before making decisions with a clear mind.
In fact, for a few people artificial sweeteners can have the opposite effect: by consuming sugar-free foods and drinks they become used to more of these ultra-sweet flavors on their plate after which it may be hard for them never to overeat.
